Expert Response

Dear gardener,

Thank you for contacting us. Common house plants often originate in tropical areas, and often are not identified by retailers. While I do not know the name of the plant, I am familiar with it.

As with many house plants, it prefers bright light but avoid direct sun. Pinching it back regularly will keep it full, rather than lanky. Water when needed, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. You can use an all-around house plant fertilizer according to the label. Usually there are instructions to mix a very weak solution that is used for every watering. I prefer this to less frequent full-dose feedings.

Most container plants do best with a double-pot system. The inner pot should contain only soil or potting medium and have ample drainage holes at the bottom. Set it in a water-tight outer pot, keeping it raised slightly so that it does not have contact with any excess water that drains out.

Hi there.

Thank you for your response. This plant was an outdoor plant in Spain that I keep indoors here for obvious reasons!

It does grow lanky and have now started doing exactly as you have suggested.

The betray news is that I have taken many many clippings from it, and it takes very well.

If anyone knows the name of this plant, I would love to k ow.

Thanks in advance.
