A plant that was originally from the Brooklyn Botanical Garden #272824

My father-in-law gave us this little itty bitty plant about 12 years ago, and it stayed fairly small until this year. It is a specimen of some sort, and now that Henry died, I have no one to ask what it is. In the spring it has small white flowers. I need to trim it back because it has gotten way too large, but before I did, I was hopting that someone could identify it for me, and also probide some guidance as to the best way to handle it. Thanks in advance, Margaret

It looks like a honeysuckle relative to me, but honestly I would prefer a photo of the flowers, that would be very helpful. Do you have an old one you could post? If not, post one next spring. A closer image of the leaf petioles and other characteristics would help as well. Thanks.

well, it is definitely not a climbing plant. Here are some pictures that might help.

Not all honeysuckles are climbers. Lonicera mackii is a highly invasive bush type honeysuckle. Excellent photos, thank you. It is in the same family as honeysuckle but it will take me a bit more research to figure out the exact name. I'll continue to work on it.
