What kind of squash is this? Google was no help. #272565

I recently moved into a new house, and the previous owners had planted some kind of squash or gourd in the backyard. It's not any kind I've seen before, and some Google searching yielded no results. The leaves and flowers look like regular squash plants. I'm also wondering if the knobby skin is due to the variety, or due to a disease or problem with the soil. I'd love to know if this would be good to eat, or if I should rip up the plants and go with something else. Thanks!

Expert Response
This squash is more ornamental than good to eat. These kinds of gourds are used or fall decoration such as cornucopias, centerpieces, etc.
Squash will cross-pollinate and the results can be unusual. If you are interested in more edible squash, I recommend you plant particular selections, bred to be delicious, next spring. Enjoy this squash for its unusual features.
