Expert Response

It appears your tree is most likely suffering from  a nutrient deficiency (though there are a couple other things that could be involved).   The selection of maple you are going is prone to several micronutrient deficiencies in our soils.   The most common of which is iron deficiency.  However, from the pictures I don't believe the issue is iron. The yellowing associated with  iron deficiency is normally between the veins of the leaf which remain green.  Yellow leaf veins are sometime due to other nutrient deficiencies like boron.

If you want to know for sure what nutrient is involved you can send leaf samples to a lab for analysis of their nutrient content. More information including links to the labs web site and sample submission forms can be found be can be found here: http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/crops/00116.html

Is there anything else that has happened resently around the tree such as constrution or the use of any herbisides?
