White leaves on a green bean plant? #268424

Asked August 07, 2015, 6:56 PM EDT

I was picking some green beans (bush variety) today and noticed a plant that had two stems of white leaves and the rest were normal green leaves. What causes this? It didn't have these leaves until recently as this is the fourth or fifth time I have picked beans.

This is just a genetic mutation that frequently happens among plants. This is where we sometimes get new varieties, but only through those mutations which are stable. Many are unstable and will not carry on to the next generation of plants. My guess is this is a weak or unstable mutation.
