zucchini problems #267778

Asked August 05, 2015, 11:54 AM EDT

Earlier this season I asked about an issue with my zucchini fruits yellowing and dying (it had happened every year prior), and the diagnosis was Choanephora rot. I took the advice you gave and added newspaper/grass mulch underneath my latest plant, and I also applied a fungicide/insecticide spray from Bonide. The issue persisted to some extent but our productive crop was much better than previous years. Now the plant appears to be rotting at the two main stems, so I'm wondering if this is the same issue or something else.

Based on your photos you may be dealing with squash vine borer, an insect pest. See our Pest Profile on Squash Vine Borer. There you will see monitoring, prevention and control techniques http://extension.umd.edu/growit/insects/squash-vine-borer
