"southern blight" #267122

I have a hosta which is dying.. from what I think may be "southern blight". Using the photos, could you confirm this and give and me advice on how to best rid this from my garden.
photos 1... the effected plant  2. a close up of the stem at ground level. 3 a close up of a leaf that was removed and placed in a plastic bag.. the white feathery "something" grew over several days..

Hi Jean-

You definitely have a fungal issue.  
I would work with your local Virginia Cooperative Extension office and the Master Gardeners Help Desk to determine the exact pathogen affecting your hostas.  
They can assist you and submit a sample to the VT Disease Lab, if necessary.
I'm located in Montgomery County, so our distance will hinder the process.    

Unfortunately,  if you do have Southern Blight, it is hard to control in home landscapes.  But, let's determine the exact pathogen and go from there.
