Peach tree has spots with holes #266870

Asked August 02, 2015, 2:39 PM EDT

Have peach tree planted in May.  Was growing well with nice shinny leaves. Suddenly it had leaves with brown spots and holes. Suspect it is caused by some kind of parasite. How should I treat it?

Expert Response

this looks like bacterial spot. the best way to control it is by planting resistant cultivars. Blazing Star, Harrow Beauty, Harrow Diamond, John Boy, PF-1, PF-12A and Starfire are among some of the newer cultivars that performed well in a Michigan study that evaluated resistance of peaches to bacterial spot. it can be a difficult disease to manage in home fruit plantings. Copper sprays are used early in the season (before shuck split) to help control this disease.
