What's happening to this leaf? #263897

Asked July 22, 2015, 7:18 AM EDT

This is the leaf of an Allegany paw paw tree that was planted this year. Although it has been doing well since it was planted this spring, we noticed this discoloration on it this week. The other paw paws (different varieties) near it seem normal. Can you tell what might be causing it?

Expert Response

There may be several reasons for the leaf discoloration such as lack of establishment, may be nutritional, or genetic in nature, etc. We cannot say for sure. If all of the leaves on the tree are affected it may be an issue.  If there are just a few leaves that are affected, do not worry about it.  Keep the trees well watered during dry periods. Monitor the health of the tree and send us additional photos if symptoms progress.
