Red Oak leaf problem #263853

What causes this leaf damage. About 30-40% of the leaves are affected. They start out normal in the spring but then seem to loose their green color on parts of the leaves then these areas burn causing the leaf to shrivel up. We have tried top-dressing iron to the soil around the tree without much success. Any suggestions?

This looks like Leaf Scorch:

It could also be Oak Wilt, which is a serious disease that is killing many of our red oak trees:

If it is the latter, you should contact a certified arborist soon.  S/he will be able to advise you about the possibility of saving the tree, or removing it from the landscape in order to prevent the spread of this disease:
