Black inside tomato #263847

Asked July 21, 2015, 8:33 PM EDT

Every bison tomato (picture shown) has a black inside. I've eaten grape tomatoes and plum tomatoes from right next to the bison tomato with no problems.

Expert Response

There may be several reasons for the black interior. May be due to a type of environmental damage. Also, look for tomato pinworm,a pest.   Larvae can tunnel into the fruit.  See our website for more information on signs and symptoms and what to look for http://extension.umd.edu/growit/insects/tomato-pinworm
