bagworms on my red oak #258920

Asked July 02, 2015, 10:32 PM EDT

What is the best way to control bagworms? Is picking them off the leaves the best way? And how do I stop them for next year?

Handpicking them is acceptable, but sometimes impractical. Spraying the infested trees with recommended pesticide is effective only when the larva is outside the bag (see details in the article).

In my experience bagworms are not a serious problem on oak trees and I don't associate this pest with any major problems on oaks. Bagworms routinely kill cedars and junipers.
