My young peach tree's new growth has withered and it has lost three of the six peaches that were originally on the tree. One of the fruit that remains is oozing a brown jelly.

I think you have a brown rot issue,

Control is 2 fold: Clean Up (Cultural) and chemical
You need to clean up the tree , remove all the brown fruit, from the tree and the ground. Also prune back any brown or diseased branches. When pruning, make sure to use "clean" clippers. Dip clippers into a 10% bleach solution or 70% alcohol before use and in between each cut in the tree. I know that sounds like a little much, but you need to do it. The rot can easily be spread with open wounds, like a cut.
