Peac Tree Issue #258721

Asked July 02, 2015, 9:35 AM EDT

My young peach tree's new growth has withered and it has lost three of the six peaches that were originally on the tree. One of the fruit that remains is oozing a brown jelly.

HI-

I think you have a brown rot issue,
Here is some more info:  https://pubs.ext.vt.edu/450/450-721/450-721_pdf.pdf

Control is 2 fold:  Clean Up (Cultural) and chemical

You need to clean up the tree , remove all the brown fruit, from the tree and the ground.  Also prune back any brown or diseased branches.  When pruning, make sure to use "clean" clippers.  Dip clippers into a 10% bleach solution or 70% alcohol before use and in between each cut in the tree.  I know that sounds like a little much, but you need to do it.  The rot can easily be spread with open wounds, like a cut.

You should spray a fungicide in the early spring and then again 3 weeks before harvest.  Immunox, is  a suggested fungicide.  Here is a spray recommendation: https://pubs.ext.vt.edu/456/456-018/Section_3_Home_Fruit-Disease_and_Insects-1.pdf
Pull down in the document until you see Table 3.7 - Spray Schedule for Cherries1
, Nectarines, Peaches, Plums and Prunes

I will work to send you an easier to read spray recommendation once I'm back in the office.
