Tree wound #258095

Asked June 29, 2015, 8:06 PM EDT

I have a three year old black mulberry tree with a wound where a tree branch was pulled too hard and it split off at the trunk for about an inch or two along the trunk (but the branch is still connected). I pruned the branch to reduce size and weight of it and tied the branch up closing the wound as best as I could matching cambium. There is still a small space where I'm afraid insects or disease could attack and weaken the tree. Is there anything recommended to patch or fill the space and promote new growth to heal the tear? Thank you

Expert Response

So sorry to hear about your mulberry tree. This question would best be handled by a certified arborist who could come out and see your tree in person. We can't make any specific recommendations, but there are many on the Portland area.
Best of luck!
