Can you identify this weed/plant (1st pic). Turtle in my yard. Is it a box turtle (2nd pic). #256117

The weed in my first pic pops up all over the yard, usually in mulched areas. Looks almost like a tulip when it first emerges. It has a fairly thick stem and when I try to pull it out the stem snaps underground. I have never been able to pull out entire plant with root. Roots seem fairly deep in the ground. Weed killer takes forever to kill this weed. 2nd pic is a turtle I found in my yard. Just curious as to what kind it is.

Yes, that is a box turtle.

As to the weed, the photo is a bit blurry and I can't really make out the leaves. So, you may either send me another photo are take the weed to your county extension office when a master gardener is in to make the id for you. I have attached the information for the Monroe County Extension office below:
