Good afternoon. While walking around a local lake I discovered this plant with unusual budding. the path is well maintained with much natural landscaping. There is poison ivy and what I think are black raspberries in the general area. The plant is in a well shaded spot.

This is wineberry. The immature fruits you saw will mature into berries that are tasty, but unfortunately the plant is highly invasive and displacing native species. It should be removed. Don't spread the seeds.
