BLS testing #241771

Asked May 05, 2015, 9:27 AM EDT

There is suspicion that our Pin Oaks may be suffering from bacterial leaf scorch. We understand that " The only way to confirm the diagnosis of bacterial leaf scorch is through laboratory analysis." And that " The best time to test for the presence of this disease is in late summer or early fall, when the bacteria count is at its highest. " THE QUESTION: What place is closest for delivering the samples for testing? Our development is close to Rockville Center. Any instructions as to what to sample and how many? Finally, what is the cost per sample? Thank you,

Montgomery County Maryland

Expert Response

You are correct about the diagnostic procedure for confirming the presence of this disease.  You should contact a local professional tree care company between now and late summer to arrange for their laboratory to test the plant tissue.  Bartlett has a well-respected laboratory.
If you wish, you can send us photos of the symptoms that you consider to be significant and we will provide a preliminary diagnosis.
