pear tree leaves wrinkled #240579

Asked April 29, 2015, 10:57 PM EDT

My pear tree is 1 year old. The new leaves are all curled and wrinkled. The underside of the leaves has a lot of black speckles. I found one tiny green bug, about 1/16 inch long. Thanks for your time.

I FOUND 'EM!

E
xamining the leaves under a microscope I found an infestation of insects ~ 0.030 - 0.050 inches long, fat bodies, light green translucent, long antennae, black eyes.  Too small to photograph, but here's another view of the leaves.  Please advise.

Aphids

Identified from internet photos.  I cut out the worst parts and sprayed water to try to knock the rest off.  Don't want to harrass the ladybugs more than necessary, but if it gets worse I will use bugacidal soap.  If you have other suggestions, please advise.

Nice detective work!

You might find that the water spray worked just fine, if not an insecticidal soap could be effective.  Always read the label for proper safety and application instructions.

Good luck!
