Black water pool #229803

Asked March 06, 2015, 8:03 AM EST

I'm renting and have an in ground pool with black/green water. IT must have been standing for years, oak leaves in it, etc. The landlord is not replacing the ripped pool cover and I am very concerned about mosquitoes. What should I do about treating this water? I can't afford to drain this pool @$2500.

Expert Response

yOU CAN PURCHASE FROM LOWES OR HOME DEPOT OR OTHER GARDEN CENTER A PRODUCT CALLED MOSQUITO DUNKS.  JUST THROW ONE OR TWO IN THE POOL.  THEY CONTAIN A BACTERIA THAT INFECTS MOSQUITO LARVA AND WILL KEEP YOUR POPULATION DOWN AND OUT.  REPEAT AS YOU OBSERVE LARVA IN THE WATER.
