Rainwater Collection off a hoophouse #228027
Asked February 17, 2015, 1:56 PM EST
Hello! I have a question about rainwater collection. I understand that it is legal to collect in Oregon IF you are collecting it from a man-made surface, such as a roof or pavement. I was wondering if collection off of a hoop house would be considered legal? Do we need permits or anything or can we just start collecting? The water would be for gardening/irrigation purposes. Thanks!

Hello,
Yes, it is legal and you do not need permits. You have a great idea. Good luck capturing the rain.
Collecting rainwater is more of a legal issue in arid states, like Colorado, where downstream users rely on every drop that is available. We are not to this point in Oregon.
