Do you recommend putting wood ashes on garden plot soil? Thanks, Dave in Muskegon.

Hello and thank you for your question. The answer is......maybe. It depends on lots of things--how much you intend to spread, is it for a veggie plot or perennial garden, what kind of trees the ash came from and your soil's pH. Most wood ash has trace nutrients and long term result of too much ash would be to raise the pH of your soil, making some nutrients unavailable to the plants. My recommendation would be to get a soil test done (http://www.soiltest.msu.edu) before applying the ash. Please let us know if you have further questions.
