I have had this orchid f... #224776

Asked January 17, 2015, 4:05 PM EST

I have had this orchid for several years. It looks healthy, grows, and blooms, but it has grown to one side only. I can no longer keep it from tipping over because of the weight. I have it in a south facing window with a sheer curtain to filter the sun. I rotate it regularly, but it hasn't helped. Do you know what caused this and is there a way to improve the problem? Thanks. Expert Response

The growth habit shown in the photo is typical of many well established orchid plants. We don't know of any way to reverse this once it happens.  It might have happened even if the plant had been turned regularly from the  beginning.

It may be possible to repot the plant and reposition it somewhat in the process. Use a weighty well-balanced pot to keep the plant from tipping over as it continues to grow.
