We have a magnificent Tulip Poplar (nearly 100 feet tall) in our front garden. It needs a bit of pruning of some branch ends to lighten the load (says Bartlett's, our arborist). When is the best time to prune?
Montgomery County Maryland
Expert Response
Pruning during the dormant period so that the branching can be clearly seen is a good idea. Late winter/early spring before the tree leafs out is a good time. Avoid pruning from August to October.
