We have gotten tons of these bugs on our property this summer. They fly and are everywhere and I am wondering if they do any damage? A new filbert orchard was recently planted on the fields that surround our house and I wonder if there is a correlation to it? Thank you

Unfortunately we don't have any good answers for this insect, especially in agricultural situations. Here's some general information but the best option is to stay in touch with the research at OSU through Extension in terms of specific treatments for ag crops. The bugs themselves are harmless, won't bite or sting, and are only a nuisance around homes, but can be a severe nuisance in some cases.
