Blue Flag Iris Seed Propagation #215828

I have Blue Flag Iris seed which I intend to seed and produce a naturalized scape around the perimeter of two bio swails. Do I scarify or stratify the seeds first and how deep / far apart should I seed? Is straw mulching advisable? Do rodents or birds threaten to consume my plantings? I reside in the Sun River area wetland flood plain. Thank you for your attention.

Hi, Here is a link to the website you can use to learn more about propagating blue flag iris ( Iris missouriensis). http://www.nativeplantnetwork.org/network/ViewProtocols.aspx?ProtocolID=94 Cold stratification is suggested, see website link. I am not sure if you will have any problems with birds or rodents, if the seeds are lightly covered with soil , then probably not. I do not think that you will need to put straw mulch on top of the seeds in they are lightly covered with soil.
