.when leaves on two of my apple trees came out this spring, they only came as one half of a leaf and so did not have blossoms this year. By the middle of June they formed their leaves fully. What caused this?

The lack of blossom and unusually leaves may be due to a late spring freeze that killed the blossoms and damaged the leaf buds just as the buds were beginning to open.
