Stink bugs #213532

Asked September 21, 2014, 5:55 PM EDT

This last spring of 2014, I caught and killed 72 stink bugs inside of our screened in porch. I can't imagine about the population outside of the porch. Today I have spotted 5 Stink bugs. We have noticed them here before. We have lived here since 1977. I have read that on the East coast there is an epidemic of them, so I thought I would mention my experience here in Tigard Oregon to you. Thank you for the work you do. Maurine Hansen

Maurine,

Brown marmorated stink bugs (BMSB) were first identified from Portland in 2004.  You’ll find lots more information about them here in Oregon at http://horticulture.oregonstate.edu/group/brown-marmorated-stink-bug-oregon. The key character to verify their identification are the white bands on the antennae.  All life stages, even the newborns, will have that characteristic.

If  you have numerous BMSB, please report your sighting here: http://horticulture.oregonstate.edu/content/report-brown-marmorated-stinkbug.  But no need to report if you have only 5 or a few more.
