There was frost last nigh... #212259

There was frost last night. I covered my raspberry bushes with sheets. When I picked my raspberries today, the inside of the fruit had white crust. The outside felt fine. In the past when the berries froze, the berries were soft. This time outside of berry isnt soft just inside has a little crusty layer. Did they freeze? Are they still edible?

Expert Response

We agree that frost damaged fruit would be soft and otherwise unappetizing or unusable.  We don't know what accounts for the crusty layer, but if the fruit is firm and tastes good, we presume it's edible.
