Drought Resistant Turf #210725

Asked September 04, 2014, 1:00 PM EDT

I have the Black Forest B&B and just had the state repermit my well as commercial which will only allow me 22,000 gallons a month total from 2 wells for 4 houses.  I have a 5,000+ sq ft wedding meadow that I will not be able to water next summer.  It is planted on rock hard soil.

Is there a "miracle" turf that I can over seed what I have planted now and perhaps have it over winter and only need water in the spring?  I would hate to have to astro turf a beautiful spot over looking the mountains and surrounded by Ponderosas. Also I could not afford to astro turf it.

Thank you

Susie Wilson,

Thank you for your pictures and question.

Unfortunately, there is no miracle grass. There are types of grass that take less water and are more drought resistant, but most grass needs regular watering. I am sending you several links from Colorado State University for your review and that may assist you in making an informed choice on what to plant. After you read them over if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Susie,

There is a lot of good information of the Colorado State University website. Once you are there, if you type "drought tolerant plants" in the search bar, there are many articles that you may also find helpful.
