east facing, front of living room window 7ft.wd. by 6 ft. depth roof overhang 4 ft.
receives moisture only at front
I would like to plant 2 small shrubs needing little care adaptable to dry conditions Zone 4
I would appreciate any suggestions

I would not plant anything under the roof overhang unless you plan to water it at least during the summer season. You could plant a shrub at the drip line, where the front half would receive water, enough might seep in for the whole shrub. There are more variables than what you have mentioned.
