I have an apple tree in m... #198236

Asked July 10, 2014, 1:32 PM EDT

I have an apple tree in my yard which was planted by the previous home owner. I am wondering if you could identify it for me and give me advice on how to prune it so that it produces better fruit. Also, I would like to know if the apples it is producing are good for human consumption.

In regards to f"or human consumption", it is all about taste. If you like them they are good to eat. They maybe a pie apple and then most prefer them in pies or sauce. The way to decide is a taste test. Pie apples have a very firm, tart flesh.

Thank you, but I am still uncertain as to what type of Apple tree this is. I am guessing some type of crabapple but I don 't know

It is a case of wait and see or contact the previous owner for more information. It looks like a young tree. The apples already look large for crab apples and have no red on them, my guess would be it is a larger apple. Zestar and Snow Queen are small eating apples.
