Beauty Berry Wilt #196258

Asked July 02, 2014, 12:29 PM EDT

Hello, I am having a problem with my callicarpa americana "Beauty Berry" shrubs.  There are leaves on certain stems that seem to become mottled, withered and dies.  At times, the whole plant will become infected but other times, only a branch.  It seems to be happening each year.  The shrubs are along a roadway and are well irrigated and we add compost and fertilizer each season.  We do winter/early spring pruning for height reduction and overall shape.  Any help would be appreciated.  2 pictures are included as examples.  Up to this point, we have been pruning out the dead and using denatured alcohol to clean our pruners.

This is new to me!  Your submission proves once again that no plant is problem free.  If you are able, please send a sample to the Texas Plant Disease Diagnosis Lab in College Station.  Submission forms and instructions are available at

They may not find a pathogen, but I think it is worth a try.
