sawdust for marionberries #194810
Asked June 27, 2014, 11:41 AM EDT
If I put sawdust on my marionberry beds, like I have for blueberries, would it make the soil too acidic for the marionberries? Thank you in advance!

Expert Response
A bigger problem with the sawdust is that it may compact and shed water. As long as it is not too thick on the surface it is probably OK, but because the marionberries grow their new canes each year from underground as opposed to the blueberries which grow new aboveground, I do not feel it is your best choice. Something which is looser and breathes better would be my choice.
