Please send us a  closeup picture of a leaf so we can try to identify it. Please send pictures of the other tree.  Are the leaves on the two tree the same or different?

Alternately branching tree with simple double tooth margins that are lopsided at the base are elms. Dutch elm disease (Ophiostoma ulmi and Ophiostoma novo-ulmi)  is a fungal disease that infects all native Minnesota elm trees. The fungus cannot move by air or water to infect new trees but rather is carried by beetles or transmitted through grafted (connected) roots. Healthy elms neighboring infected elms soon show symptoms due to spread through root grafts. Trees infected with DED should be taken down.  For more information: http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/deciduous/elm/branchesdead.html http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/trees-shrubs/dutch-elm-disease/
