I have a Deborah Maple that has been I the ground for 3 years and dos not look too good. It was approximately 6 - 7' tall when I put it in the ground and is now about 11' with a 5' branch span and a 9" circumference at the base. The tree is planted at the bottom of a slope, in clay and the soil does stay pretty damp. I have attached pictures of what it looks like this year and an idea of it's location. Is there anything I can do to help it in its current location or do I have to look into possibly moving it?

Expert Response

Our view of the tree shown in the photo is too limited to assess its health.  What we can see suggests that it may be dead or dying.  If it's declining because the soil in its current location is saturated and is likely to be so in the future, moving it to a drier site is the best way to address the problem.

These are the only other two photos I took.  Would another picture be better?

The tree has declined to the point that it's unlikely to survive.  A move probably won't save it.
