Good afternoon,I live in Castle Rock, Colorado in the Meadows. I have an ash tree that appears to be diseased. Many leaves are cooper colored at the ends and green at the stem. Other leaves, particularly the baby leaves, are warped. Please see the pictures. What is causing the problem and what can I do to correct it?
Douglas County Colorado
Expert Response
This tree appears to be a crabapple, perhaps Spring Snow crabapple.
My best guess is that it suffered some cold injury while leafing out; we had cold snaps April 29-30 and May 11-14. New leaves just out of the bud are tender and succulent, prone to cold injury. The distortions of some of the affected leaves may have been due to how they emerged from the bud/shoot during the cold snap.
You might look at neighbors' crabapple trees, if any, to see similar injuries. Otherwise, no action needed.
