sick apple tree #190703

Asked June 12, 2014, 3:33 PM EDT

22 years old yellow delicious apple tree has quickly (over 2-3 weeks) developed shriveled leaves and fruits. looked very healthy with many blossoms this spring. we had hail storms and unseasonably cool wet weather this spring/summer. Is this fire blight? something else? any treatments recommended? thanks.

Expert Response

Fire blight it is.  Very prevalent on apple, crabapple and pear this spring.
Pruning to remove blighted twigs now (disinfect blades between every cut made) or pruning in Feb-March is recommended..
