Brown lines on organic soybean leaves - with photos #187483
Asked June 02, 2014, 9:04 AM EDT
I have planted a few organic soybeans in my kitchen garden. They had been doing very well but after this latest rain several of the plants have developed very pronounced brownish (color of chewing tobacco) discoloring along the veins of some of their leaves. It is only along part of the leaf but it causes the stem to wilt. Any idea what it is and/or what can be done about it? I am using a straw bale planting method. Please be advised that I am trying to keep my garden as organic as possible. Thanks!

Expert Response
Nothing in particular stands out, but I suspect you may have a disease or nutrient deficiency affecting your plants. My suggestion is to submit a plant (entire plant, not just the leaves) and soil sample to your local extension office and they can submit them for disease diagnostics and soil nutrient analyses. If you can provide additional information about the progress of the problem I may be able to come up with some additional ideas about what the problem might be.
