My niece asked me this ... #181095

My niece asked me this and I have no experience with lilies. Can you help? I have a gardening question... I purchased some Oriental Lily bulbs at the Como Conservatory, and I was curious: is it okay to plant them now, even though they just finished blooming? What I've read online suggests that you plant in the fall, but also that you should plant as soon as possible. What would you recommend?

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

Hardy lilies growing in containers are planted throughout the growing season.  Wait till the end of May when all chances of frost are gone to transplant your bulb.  Dormant Lily bulbs may be planted in spring or in the fall, usually from mid-September through mid-October. http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/flowers/selecting-lilies-for-your-garden/
