Twig Girdler on Oak Tree #181008

Asked May 12, 2014, 3:40 PM EDT

Have had Twig girdlers for a while and was told really wasn't a problem.  But this year they are cutting off HUGE pieces of limb -- as big around as a straw or even bigger.  But there is a lot of leaves on this broken piece.  Who can I get to spray or treat these critters -- the oaks are very large and old and obviously under stress from the drought.  But the girlders are starting to really thin out the canopy.  I really need some help or advice.  Picture two is about 1 days worth of damage from three trees.  HELP

I would call an arborists. There are several in the area. While twig girdlers generally aren't a big problem, with the drought stress, this might be the year to spray.
