Richard,
I really need a closer up image of the weed in question. It most likely is either horse herb or oxallis? I really don't see much lawn and only some sporadic Bermuda grass?
Such weed pressure comes about with drought stress, compacted soils and a poor nutrient program.
How did the lawn look before?
How often is it watered? During winter did you water at all?
Have you ever core aerated and top-dressed with compost? This is a great time to do so...
Did you fertilize in mid-October with 7 pounds of 18-6-12 per 1000 square feet?
How about last weekend with 19-5-9 slow-release nitrogen fertilizer at 5 - 7 pounds per 1000 square feet?
A pre-emergent herbicide applied back in early September and late February would have alleaviated some of this pressure?
Mow and catch any weed seed potential. Water up the entire area and spray a 4 days later with a broad-leaf liquid herbicide for established Southern lawns or spray with a non-selective herbicide like Roundup and start all over again. Do follow the label instructions.
Good luck!
