Expert Response
I located several such commercially packaged organic
fertilizers available via mail-order by searching with the phrase: 16-16-16
organic fertilizer" -- if you do a similar search, you don't need the
quote marks. But I’m certain you will be able to purchase what you need at
a local garden center without the need to pay shipping.
Here’s how it works: A fertilizer with the analysis of 16-16-16 has a ratio of 1-1-1. So, you can use any fertilizer where the 3 numbers are the same. Some examples are 4-4-4 or 5-5-5 or 8-8-8, and so on. You could also be successful with slightly lower number for the middle (potassium) and final number (phosphorus).
The difference in using any fertilizers is the amount you apply each time. The package label will state the amount but, in general, you would apply less of the 16-16-16 than of the 5-5-5, and so on.
