scotts spreader setting - 15-5-10 lawn fertilizer #170545

Asked March 17, 2014, 6:08 PM EDT

The fertilizer bag states that I should apply 40 lbs. per 5000 sq. ft. or 8 lbs per 1000 sq ft. using a rotary type spreader. What setting should I use on a Scotts spreader?

Williamson County Texas

The Scott's standard broadcast spreader setting is based on the number of pounds per 1000 square feet. For the product below, the application rate is 11.5 lbs/5000 square feet. If you reduce this, it becomes 2.3 lbs/1000 square feet... so the setting should be 2.3

The same: 2.5!
See new label pd above.
This conversion only works on Scott's or similar products that have a uniform prill size. If products have a variable prill size and weight this conversion will not work out correctly. For 8 lbs, the setting would be 8.I would recomdend a lower setting based on the N requirement of 1 pound per 1,000 sq. ft.- my recomendation would be 6 for the first application of the year.
