Expert Response

I assume this is for a home garden or a U-pick operation. Blueberries prefer a soil pH of about 5 so you should test your soil to be sure that it is acidic enough for blueberries. If the soil pH is above 6, I recommend you look at another fruit. We do have a blueberry variety bulletin E-1456 "Blueberry varieties for Michigan" available at the MSU Bookstore http://bookstore.msue.msu.edu/In the order of ripening, I would suggest, Duke, Bluejay, Blueray, Toro, Bluecrop, Nelson, Jersey. I would suggest you plant several varieties for cross pollination with great fruit set and larger fruit size. Each bush will pick for about 2 to 3 weeks and the varieties suggested would keep you in blueberries from early July to mid-August.
