Living fence #167719
Asked February 22, 2014, 2:03 PM EST
I have a 6' tall wooden stockade fence that I would like to cover (hide) in green plant material (evergreen). I would prefer a vine or hedge but everything I think is ideal turns out to be poisonous (we have 4 dogs). I do not want arbor vitae or trees. Please help and thank you.

Expert Response
Green Giant Arborvitae would be my first choice. But there are other choices for a vegetative buffer. Streamco purpleosier willows can be used as a screen, they can thrive in a variety of conditions.

Do not use forsythia as it is poisonous. Thanks, G.
