Hello. My name is Gary Farris. I recently purchased a horse farm in Cherokee county. The pasture is predominately bermuda grass. I am not sure if I have a weed problem (as I purchase the place only last fall), but generally speaking should I give thoughy to the application of a pre-emergent herbicide. I have approximately 6 acres of pasture land with a stocked pond. If I should, want brand do you recommend?

Thank you for getting in touch with us about using a pre-emergent on your Bermudagrass pasture.
It is highly unlikely that you have no weeds at all, so using a Spring pre-emergent is prudent. On Bermudagrass, the best time is during the month of March. On a large pasture (6 acres) such as yours, you may decide to apply the herbicide yourself or you may hire a professional. In any case, there are many pre-emergent herbicides which will work on Bermudagrass, except for those which contain Atrazine. If you do it yourself, look for a pre-emergent with the active ingredient of Benefin or Pendimethalin. The active ingredient usually is located on the front of the bag on the left bottom. Make sure you follow the instructions on the lable, exactly. Additionally, please follow all personal safety guidelines.
