nitrogen and iron chlorosis #163031
Asked December 29, 2013, 9:49 PM EST
what is the conceptual reason for the particular places in the plant where nitrogen and iron chlorosis occurs? besides that nitrogen chlorosis will start in the older leaves and that of iron in the younger leaves due to their mobilities.

The place may not have enough nutrient in total quantity or not enough nutrient in plant-available forms. Soil pH is one main reason that nutrients are not available in many cases. N is mobile-----new leaves are a greater 'sink', so when there's not enough N, N moves from older leaves to newer leaves and N deficiency shows up in older leaves first. Fe is immobile. When there's not enough Fe, the deficiency shows up in newer leaves.
