Yellow needles on Fir Tree #157227

Asked October 15, 2013, 7:20 PM EDT

We have a young pine tree that has yellow splotches on its needles. I am enclosing a photo of the tree. I read the article about the Douglas Fir Needle Midge and I fear that may be the problem. I would like your thoughts. Thank you so much for your service. Patti Stewart

Patti,

The needles turning brown is normal for pine trees this time a year.  Each year pine trees lose their older, inner needles along the branch. So you don't have to do anything.
