Pasture grass allergy 'flyers' concern #156468

Asked October 10, 2013, 7:20 AM EDT

What kind of plant could produce seeds this time of year that fly around in the air, look like snowflakes ~ umbrella shaped & stick to you & make you sneeze?
Ruling out dandelion ~ Sage grass?  What can I apply to kill it off besides cutting or bushhogging.  I have already limed the pasture to get rid of unwanted weeds.

This is a dandelion species.  You normally see small short plants but in late summer they bolt up tall.  The seed do not cause an allergy problem but the pollen does.  They also get blamed for allergies that are caused by another composite flower called ragweed which produces prolific pollen that can go long distances through the air.

Many products will control it.  Look here: http://www.aces.edu/pubs/docs/I/IPM-0028/IPM-0028.pdf The common materials that kill ragweed (such as 2,4 D) will control dandelion in spring/summer.  Too late now.
