Bug on a Bush #153750

Asked September 21, 2013, 9:22 PM EDT

Hello,
I was at the Arboretum yesterday and saw this bug among lots of bumble bees on a flowering bush.    It didn't move much.  It was a bug a bit smaller than a grasshopper with an iridescent blue color to it,  It didn't move and it didn't bite.  What could it be?  Photo is marked Bug on Bush.

Expert Response

I believe this wasp is of the Sphecidae (Thread-waisted Wasps) family, possibly of the Genus Podium.
